Deep Cleansing Facial Aftercare: First 72 Hours of Care
By Bhumi’s Salon | July 22, 2026

If you want that fresh, clean glow to last, keep the first 24 to 72 hours simple: skip makeup, skip heavy sweating, and stay out of the sun. One of our facial regulars told us her skin “always looks radiant after a facial, ” and aftercare is a big part of why. Here in Carrollton, our heat and humidity can turn a great facial into an irritated face fast, so this is the low-maintenance plan we give at Bhumi’s Salon for predictable results.
0 to 24 hours: the “hands off” window that protects your glow
Right after your 45-minute Deep Cleansing Facial, your skin is freshly cleared out and a little more reactive than usual. That’s normal. What you do tonight matters more than the fancy serum you buy later.
Tonight’s non-negotiables: No makeup, no gym, no sauna/steam, and no sunbathing for at least 24 hours. If you’re in Carrollton and stepping outside, keep it short and wear SPF.
Cleansing and moisturizing, the simple way
We generally recommend washing with lukewarm water and a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser the night of your facial. Pat dry. Don’t scrub, don’t use a cleansing brush, and don’t rub with a towel. Follow with a lightweight moisturizer so your skin stays calm instead of tight.
What’s normal right away
A little redness, mild sensitivity, and a “warm” feeling tends to show up for some people, especially if your skin was already feeling sensitive. If you’re the type who flushes easily, plan on a quiet night and keep your hands off your face.
24 to 72 hours: makeup, sweat, and sun are still the main troublemakers
If you’re commuting through the Belt Line corridor or running around near Old Town Carrollton, this is the time when people accidentally undo their results. Texas heat makes it tempting to throw on full-coverage makeup, go for a hard workout, or spend time outside. Try not to.
Makeup: We prefer you wait at least 24 hours. If your skin still feels warm, tight, or bumpy at 24 hours, give it another day. Heavy foundation and thick primers can clog freshly cleaned pores.
Exercise: Light walking is usually fine, but skip heavy sweating for 24 to 72 hours. Sweat, heat, and friction (think headbands and tight caps) often trigger redness and little bumps.
Sun: This is a big one. Use a broad-spectrum SPF any time you’re outside, even for short errands. Try to avoid peak heat hours if you can, and don’t sit in the car with the sun hitting your face for long stretches.
Days 3 to 7: keep actives (retinol, AHA/BHA) on pause for about a week
This is the part most people miss. Your skin can look great on day two, then get irritated on day four because you went back to retinol, strong exfoliants, or a rough scrub too soon. After a deep cleansing facial, we generally recommend skipping retinol and strong AHAs/BHAs for about 7 days.
Also avoid for the first week: picking at flakes or bumps, clay masks that feel “tight, ” harsh toners, and anything heavily fragranced. Keep it calm and consistent.
If you notice a small breakout, don’t panic. A deep cleanse can bring congestion to the surface, and some people see temporary purging. Keep your pillowcase clean, keep your phone off your cheek, and don’t spot-treat aggressively right away.
And if you’re in Carrollton, Addison, Farmers Branch, Coppell, Plano, or Lewisville, the same rule applies: heat plus sweat plus over-exfoliating is usually the fastest way to turn “radiant” into “irritated.”
The easiest facial aftercare routine (and summer-proof habits for Carrollton)
You don’t need a complicated lineup. You need the right basics, used consistently.
Stick to this for the first 72 hours
- Gentle cleanser (fragrance-free is a safe bet), used with your hands only.
- Lightweight moisturizer to prevent dryness and overproduction of oil.
- Broad-spectrum SPF before you go outside, even on cloudy days.
Hot, humid day tips that actually help
Blot oil instead of layering powder. Keep a travel-size sunscreen in your bag so you can reapply. If you know you’ll be outside, try to avoid peak heat hours. This is one of those small choices that keeps your results steady, especially if you’re hopping around the Belt Line corridor after work.
If something feels “off, ” we want to hear about it (and we’ll keep it simple)
Most of the time, post-facial skin settles quickly with gentle cleansing and moisturizer. Mild redness and a small breakout can be normal. Severe pain, significant swelling, or blistering that doesn’t improve is not something to push through.
“Always very accommodating and makes you feel comfortable!”
one of our regulars
That comfort matters after a facial too. If you’re unsure about a product you want to restart, or you’re not sure if a reaction is normal, let us know. We’ll talk it through and keep you on track.
